Lockdown Sleep Problems

In these challenging times, people are concerned about the risks of the Covid 19 infection, they feel isolated, restricted on what they are able to do, lonely, and worried about the future. As a result, sleeping patterns are often disrupted.

Increased Stress Levels

Many people are experiencing stress and anxiety because of the uncertainty Covid 19 has brought to us all. Worried about loved ones, work, income and health; those thoughts can dominate thinking.

Sleeping

Not being able to get to sleep, or stay asleep, is common; a result of not being able to switch off or relax. Repeated nights of poor sleep will have a detrimental effect on anyone. Common symptoms include:

  • Small decisions seem difficult
  • Low mood
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Forgetfulness
  • Difficulty concentrating

This is not unusual but there are practical things you can do to help address this:

  • Keep regular sleep hours
  • Create a restful sleeping environment
  • Make sure your bed is comfortable
  • Exercise regularly
  • Cut down on caffeine
  • Do not over-indulge
  • Do not smoke
  • Try to relax before going to bed
