We provide a wide range of housing, community and day services to many different people every week and we rely on a band of dedicated volunteers to support the work we do.

If you have 'lived experience' of mental health problems, specialist skills, a counselling diploma or nursing background, or are a retired health and social care professional, we'd love to hear from you.

Chair of our Board of Trustees

We are looking for a Chair of our Board of Trustees to take responsibility for directing the affairs of the organisation.

Are you a visible, authentic and inclusive leader? Our vision is for everyone with a mental health issue to be in control of their own lives and get the support they need from people they trust. Our Board of Trustees is responsible for our governance and strategic development and supporting and empowering our Senior Management Team, staff and volunteers.

We would like to hear from people who have a developed understanding of issues relating to mental health and wellbeing and are willing to devote the time required to fulfil their responsibilities as Chair of our Board of Trustees.

Role Summary• To lead and support the Board of Trustees to understand and fulfil their legal responsibilities for the governance and strategic direction of the organisation - acting in the charity’s best interests, managing the charity’s resources responsibly and carrying out their responsibilities with reasonable care and skill.• To ensure that Darlington Mind pursues its charitable aims as defined in its governing document and complies with charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation/regulations.• To hold the Board and Senior Management Team to account against progress against the Charity’s mission, vision, and strategic plans.

To work in partnership with the Chief Executive, team members – employees and volunteers – and people with lived experience of mental health to live our values – resilience, equality and diversity, community, care, respect and collaboration and achieve the aims of the organisation.

• To work with the Board of Trustees to achieve well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision making.• To look proactively and broadly at political, economic, social and technological risks and opportunities, at emerging needs within our communities, and at the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion and use this knowledge to inform the strategic development of the organisation.• To act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive.

This role will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

This is a voluntary position. Reasonable travel expenses may be claimed.

Average time commitment 5 hours per week.

Volunteer Fundraising Role

We are looking for someone to help us with our fundraising and who has an interest in our work. The role will include developing, promoting and helping to deliver fundraising activities, helping to prepare social media posts, helping out at events from time to time with the aim of generating donations to our cause. Help us in your own time – no minimum hours.

Driver Support Worker

We are looking for a volunteer to drive the company’s minibus and support our clients.

Project Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to offer individuals with mental health issues support in achieving goals towards personal recovery. The following projects need volunteers:

  • Computer Project
  • Horticulture
  • Mini-bus Driver
