On 1st December, Darlington Mind held its first Mental Elf festive fun run in South Park, Darlington. Over 200 runners and walkers of all ages gathered together in their best costumes for a 5km route around the park, taking in all its picturesque landmarks and being entertained along the way by Cockerton Prize Silver band.
Marcus Hawthorn, Strategic Development Manager at Darlington Mind, says, “It was great to mark our 45th anniversary by putting on Darlington’s first Mental Elf run and a fantastic way to get Christmas going. It was wonderful to be part of such a colourful and positive community event, with everyone dressed in their best outfits and cheering each other on. South Park was the perfect location and we were lucky with the weather too! Exercise is an essential part of good mental health and that was evident with everyone enjoying themselves so much.”
Early indications show the event has raised over £3500 through ticket sales, fundraising and sales of merchandise on the day. As the event was generously sponsored by EE and Aldi, Darlington Mind is able to use all profits to fund vital mental health services in Darlington, Hambleton, Richmondshire and South Durham.
