Welcome To Darlington Mind

Young People’s Self Harm Prevention Project

BBC Children In Need has provided funding for an exciting new project. Darlington Mind will work in conjunction with YMCA Tees Valley and a number of other local partners to help deliver awareness sessions for young people throughout Darlington.

The project officially started on the 11th May 2016 when Darlington Mind appointed a Youth Co-ordinator, part time Activity Hub worker and a sessional Counsellor. Our plan is to work with young people who have been affected by self- harm, particularly those aged 11-18 who are deemed at risk. The young people of Darlington will be involved in decision making within the project and also have a voice in what direction they feel the project should go.

The project offers a counselling service and will also be reaching out to young people in a range of settings including schools, colleges, community centres, youth clubs and sports clubs to raise awareness. So if you have friends or family members who are feeling low or need support and guidance, Darlington Mind Young People Self Harm project, is here to help you. Just call us today for a chat.

What can I expect in the workshops and what will an awareness session look like?
  • Understanding the dangers of self-harm
  • Raising awareness of self-harm
  • Emergency Plan - what can you do when you think you might self-harm?
  • Coping techniques
  • Signposting to support agencies who can help you in a variety of settings.
