Rapid Response Suicide Prevention Service (RRSPS)

What is the RRSPS?

RRSPS is a counselling service within Primary Care Mental Health Services in County Durham, which offers a rapid response service (within 5 working days of a triage assessment) to clients at risk of suicide or self-harm.

Darlington, Hartlepool, Derwentside and Chester-le-Street & Durham Mind work in partnership with County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust (CDDFT) and the Crisis/Access Services to deliver this service across County Durham. The service is funded by Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Please note: referral to this service is via the Crisis/Access Service only.

  • On receipt of a referral, a Triage and Risk assessment is completed within 1 working day (where contact can be made with the client).
  • The client will be offered rapid response counselling if it is suitable for their needs, within 5 working days of completion of the triage assessment. The service operates Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
  • The client will be given between 2 and 6 counselling sessions.
  • The GP will also be notified of the outcome of the counselling and of any further recommendations.
